Hi.

Welcome to The Glasgow Food Blog. I love Glasgow, and I love food. It's a match made in heaven.

The Hippo Taproom
323 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3HW

Hippo Taproom is now closed.

I was already a huge fan of Hippo Beers (the off licence beer bottle shop on Queen Margaret Drive) and was super excited to hear they were opening a bar on Sauchiehall Street, where Cocktail & Burger used to be.

Thankfully I didn't have to wait long for an excuse to visit for some Saturday night beers. Firstly, as Joe P said, it's pretty much the same as Cocktail & Burger so you might actually get a bit weirded out about stepping into a time warp like I did (or maybe it was the fact I was already drunk).

They have a great selection of beers on tap as well as bottled. I had the Cloudwater DIPA which is a whopping 9% (I did not realise that at the time) and £3.75 for a 1/3rd pint. Then I just stuck to water because my brain was trying to exit my body.

I really like it here. A lot. It has an amazing selection, friendly staff and a super chilled out vibe. On a Saturday night it was quieter than I expected but that meant we were able to get a seat and chat without any issues so I can't really complain.

They serve food which sounds really good - I didn't get to try it but they have burritos (2 for £10 at lunch during the week), wings, burgers, nachos... a nice selection of stuff to enjoy with your beer.
