Hi.

Welcome to The Glasgow Food Blog. I love Glasgow, and I love food. It's a match made in heaven.

MacGregors Pie & Ale Howff
5 Blackfriars Street, Glasgow Merchant City G1 1PG

I'm a big fan! This is definitely an old-man kind of pub, but it's clean and welcoming so don't let that put you off if you aren't an old man.

They do pies, and tasty pies at that! They have a menu which changes every day written up on a board - I went for a bolognese pie and Graeme had steak and ale. The pies are ready to eat - they're just kept in a warmer, so the bar guy put them onto plates and handed them over. Definitely a place to go if you're proper hangry as I liked that there was no wait! I also got a side of mushy peas (really only so I had a photo for green for Yelpers Love Glasgow but they were tasty anyway).

I really liked my pie. At first I thought they'd given me the wrong one as it had macaroni in it, but it had bolognese under that layer. YUM. It was seriously tasty and you can tell they're proper hand-made pies, not factory freezer ones. This place is run by the same family that have the Butterfly & Pig and Singl-end, so I expected good food! I would say the dough on mine was a little doughy but not worth knocking off a star.

Great, interesting pie options (duckfast, macaroni cheese & gravy, thai veg curry, breakfast) as well as traditional options (haggis, mince and tatties, venison, veggie haggis), cheap prices and friendly staff mean I can't not give this place 5 stars. I'll be back soon!
