I love Glasgow. Big time. I think that is pretty obvious from this blog, my job at Yelp and my roller derby league! I loved the city as soon as I arrived here nearly 5 years ago, and I love that every day I get to discover a new aspect of it which makes it so special.
This year there was a few tweaks – I grilled prawns for that delicious flavour kick and let them cool for the prawn cocktail starter. We got a Wiltshire roasted ham on the bone and I made up a ham stock with the bone and last few shreds of ham.
I spied Aubergine Daal in Jamie Oliver's new book, Save with Jamie and cooked it last night. What a winner it turned out to be! I suspect 2014 is going to be year of the daal in our house!
I was recently invited to go to a day out for bloggers at Blythswood Square. Sadly in the week leading up to it, I ended up with bronchitis and as the event involved going to the ballet (and no one likes people who cough all the way through!), my lovely friend Nicola went in my place!

A recent dining-out experience that I'd love to share was our dinner at Hotel du Vin in Glasgow's West End. It was a Sicilian Wine dinner of 4 courses plus matching Sicilian wines (as well as canapés)
How did I find going gluten free? It was hard at first as I tend to be an unconscious eater or wholly motivated by what I feel like, rather than what I should have. I made myself stop and think before every meal/snack and aimed to go for the option without bread wherever possible.
What's a Basel tart? I know, right – all you really need to know is onion, bacon and Gruyere. Hello dream combination of food! The recipe looked pretty straightforward, just whip up some pastry, cook a filling and stick it in the oven.
Last month I finally signed up to Foodie Penpals - a great parcel exchange idea organised by This Is Rock Salt who I had the pleasure of meeting late last year. How does it work? Each month you are assigned a penpal to send a gift of £10 value to, and in return a penpal sends you a gift.

Here is a much overdue post about the dinner we had at The Grill on the Corner back at the end of March (eeeep!). We were invited in for dinner and headed into town for a wander before going in to dinner.
This tomato and butter pasta sauce is impressively simple, and yet packs a huge flavour punch. Give it a try one night when you need a comfort meal like a hug, and can't really be bothered cooking anything more complicated.
I am a huge fan of rice paper rolls and make them every now and then for lunch or dinner. What is great is that you can put whatever you want in them, there is no set recipe.
Yep, it's true! I downloaded the I Quit Sugar eBooks from Sarah Wilson's website back in October last year. I am a huge fan of Sarah Wilson - for those of you who don't know who she is, she was an editor of Australian's women's magazines, and then hosted the first series of Masterchef Australia. She now writes her blog and books about quitting sugar.
